FAVERSHAM

The market town and port of Faversham has many listed buildings; the longest preserved street; the oldest brewery and the oldest gunpowder mill in the country. Traces of a ruined abbey; the resting place of King Stephen and Queen Matilda and the Maison Dieu (founded by Henry III) attest to its royal connections. The town’s historic Guildhall is only yards from the tidal creek, which was once busy with Thames barges exporting goods to London. Today, the creek is enjoyed by sailors and people walking along the Saxon Shoreway.
